Hace un tiempo, en una entrevista para la web de Nikon me preguntaban sobre si mis fotografías están o no influenciadas por algún otro artista. Contestaba: “Me considero realmente muy influenciable. Y de hecho yo creo que mi forma de ver, mi forma de plasmar, de retratar, ha ido variando a lo largo de mi carrera, al mismo tiempo que he ido conociendo la forma de expresarse de otros fotógrafos y artistas. No hablo de copiar la forma de hacer de otros, hablo de inspirarse en lo que hicieron esos otros anteriormente. De dejarse sugestionar. Y es que hay tanto y tan bueno hecho ya…y quizás tanto por hacer.
Hace unos días, en una galería de arte de Nueva York descubrí casualmente el trabajo de un magnífico fotógrafo que realiza un trabajo tremendamente parecido al mío, de una calidad excepcional, y lleva haciéndolo tantos años como yo, e incluso más, y curiosamente jamás nuestros trabajos se cruzaron. Al menos conscientemente. Quedé muy sorprendido. Y por supuesto, inmediatamente influenciado. Claro que sí. Aunque en este caso, su influencia me haya empujado a seguir evolucionando y buscar más allá, aún. Porque ese camino en el que yo andaba, resultó que ya estaba andado. Y, para mí, ese fue el verdadero descubrimiento.”

Some time ago, in an interview for Nikon’s website they asked me about whether or not my photographs are influenced by any other artist. He replied: “I consider myself really very influential. And in fact I believe that my way of seeing, my way of capturing, of portraying, has been changing throughout my career, at the same time that I have been knowing how to express myself from other photographers and artists. I’m not talking about copying the way others do, I’m talking about being inspired by what those others did before. Let yourself be suggested. And there is so much and so good done already … and maybe so much to do.
A few days ago, in an art gallery in New York I casually discovered the work of a magnificent photographer who performs a work tremendously similar to mine, of exceptional quality, and has been doing so many years like me, and even more, and curiously never our Jobs crossed. At least consciously. I was very surprised. And of course, immediately influenced. Of course. Although in this case, its influence has pushed me to continue evolving and look further, even. Because that road I was walking on, it turned out that I was already walking. And, for me, that was the real discovery”
